Tuesday, July 12:         

Cortical/Cerebral Visual Impairment:  Assessments, Intervention Strategies, Literacy Supports, Teaming Tips and American Printing House for the Blind (APH) products, including the new CVI website.

Teri Ritchie, Education Consultant,  KSB

Susan Sullivan is currently the CVI Project Leader at the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from Illinois State University with a teaching degree in Low Vision and Blindness and from the University of Illinois with a master’s degree in Early Children Special Education/Infancy. She has worked in school districts as a Teacher for Children with Visual Impairments, at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired as an Early Intervention Vision Specialist, and at Illinois State University and Millikin University as adjunct faculty. CVI has been her passion throughout her career and she is excited to share and learn through her work at APH.


Teri Ritchie is a KSB Outreach Consultant serving the Northern Kentucky, Ohio Valley, and Central Kentucky Special Education Cooperatives.  Teri taught History at KSB before moving to Minnesota and Wisconsin where she was an itinerant teacher of the visually impaired.  She returned to Kentucky in 2006 as the TVI for Kenton County and returned to KSB in 2007.  Teri has a BA in Elem. Ed from Transylvania University and MAT in History from University of Louisville, and VI from University of Louisville.

Autism Spectrum Disorders and Visual Impairment:  What are they?  What do we know?  What do we do?

Presented by: Terese Pawletko, Ph.D.


Dr. Terese Pawletko, Ph.D., has worked with children since 1976, first as a teacher of the visually impaired, then as a school and pediatric psychologist. Starting in 1989, after completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Psychology at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, she worked with chronically ill children, and with students with autism, their parents, and related service providers. In 1997, she joined the staff of the Maryland School for the Blind(MSB) where she worked with children with a variety of disabilities including visual impairment, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, cognitive disabilities, and learning disabilities, as well as training staff to work with these students. While at MSB, Dr. Pawletko and her colleagues developed programming for children with visual impairment and autism. She is considered a national expert in this area and has presented at international conferences.

Parking Parking WILL BE available behind Evans Hall, along Frankfort or Haldeman, behind the track off of Haldeman, or at the Frankfort Ave. Church of Christ on the corner of Haldeman and Frankfort. Please do NOT park along APH.
