KSB NTI Days — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What are NTI Days?
A: NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) Days are days when students complete learning activities from home due to weather, emergencies, or extended breaks. Students are still expected to complete schoolwork on these days.

Q: How will my student receive their NTI work?
A:

  • If using printed materials: NTI packets will be sent home with students before Labor Day weekend.
  • If working online: Devices will be sent home before long breaks or when bad weather is expected.

Q: What kind of assignments will my student have on NTI Days?
A: Assignments can include:

  • Online lessons and activities
  • Hands-on learning tasks
  • Real-life skills (Expanded Core Curriculum)
  • Reviews of previously learned material

Q: How will attendance be counted on NTI Days?
A: Your student’s case manager will check in with students and families during each NTI day. Staying in contact and working on assignments counts as being "present" for the day.

Q: When are teachers available for help?
A: Teachers are available for support and check-ins from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on NTI Days.
They will also have at least two hours of online office hours for questions and support. You can request an appointment outside of those times as needed.

Q: What if my student cannot finish all the work during NTI Days?
A: Students will have one school day to complete work for each NTI day once they return to in-person learning. For example, if there are 3 NTI days, students will have 3 days to finish the work.

Q: How do students submit their work?
A: Students may show their learning in a variety of ways, including:

  • Completed worksheets or digital assignments
  • Notes, reflections, or self-assessments
  • Screenshots or photos of participation or finished tasks
  • Quizzes, polls, and online submissions
  • Parent/guardian verification for some tasks

Q: How can families support students on NTI Days?
A:

  • Help your student stay on track by setting a daily routine.
  • Create a quiet workspace for learning.
  • Make sure your student checks for assignments and communicates with their teachers.
  • Reach out to teachers or case managers with any questions!

Q: Who do I contact if I have questions or need help during NTI Days?
A: Please contact your student’s case manager or classroom teacher. They are your main point of contact and are ready to assist you during NTI Days.
